Actress and singer Carol Channing died early Tuesday at the age of 97 at her home in Rancho Mirage, California. Her longtime publicist B. Harlan Boll confirmed the entertainer’s death from natural causes. Whether you knew her as Dolly, Lorelei, Muzzy or just Carol, Channing was a one-of-a-kind talent who captivated any audience. Her razor-sharp wit, gravelly voice and big, bright smile became the trademarks of a performer who originated some of Broadway’s most iconic roles throughout the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s

She toured her own revue, Carol Channing and Her Ten Stout Hearted Men, appeared in many TV specials and TV shows, including The Love Boat and Family Guy. Her immediately recognizable voice was also used on children's audio books. Retirement was not for her: In the early 2000s, she toured her one-woman show, The First Eighty Years are The Hardest. The country needed an escape, a laugh. Carol felt that everyone, everywhere, should do Dolly. For her it was the musical Hamlet.

Thoroughly Modern Millie. Directed by. George Roy Hill. Jimmy later takes her and Miss Dorothy on an outing to Long Island, where they meet eccentric widow Muzzy Van Hossmere (Carol Channing). Jimmy tells the girls that his father was Muzzy's former gardener. Millie begins to fall for Jimmy, but she sees him summon Miss Dorothy from her room for a late night rendezvous, and assumes the worst. Millie is even more determined to stick to her plan and marry Trevor. Andrews is a comic delight, Moore is charming, and Channing steals scene after scene in this enjoyable feature. The film was one of four nostalgia-based movies George Roy Hill made. After Thoroughly Modern Millie, he made Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Great Waldo Pepper, and the Oscar-winning hit The Sting.

Broadway legend Carol Channing passed away Tuesday (Jan. 15) at the age of 97. Best known for her starring role in Hello, Dolly, the actress was also a beloved ally to the LGBTQ community. Today, Caldwell Tidicue, best known as RuPaul's Drag Race season 8 winner Bob the Drag Queen, tributes the iconic comedian. During his season of Drag Race, Tidicue won a challenge in which he impersonated Channing, and she thanked him through a video message on the season 8 finale. Read his touching salute below. At the 2004 Tony Awards, you presented the award for best original music and or lyrics written for the theatre with rapper LL Cool J. Believe it or not, this was my introduction to you. I saw an incredibly charismatic woman hit the stage in a silver sequined cocktail dress with fringe and a huge pair of sunglasses.
