Googie René ‎– Googie René Presents Romesville. Label: Rendezvous Records ‎– S-1313. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Stereo.

Rafael Leon René (March 30, 1927 – November 25, 2007), known as Googie René, was an American musician, bandleader, and songwriter. He was born in Los Angeles, the son of songwriter and record producer Leon René, and acquired the nickname "Googie" as a child. He graduated from Dorsey High School in Baldwin Hills, Los Angeles, studied piano, and began writing songs and working in his father's recording studio

Although this CD is billed to Googie Rene and Babs Gonzales, it's not a collaboration between the two musicians. Instead, it combines two late-'50s LPs that were originally billed separately to Rene and Gonzales. They're entirely unrelated, other than that, both of the albums, working in different ways, existed on the fringe of the jazz scene that drew from pop, beatnik culture, and the beginnings of what would be called swinging bachelor pad music

In 1950 after serving the . Army Air Forces and finding his father's label, Exclusive Records, had gone bankrupt, Googie started Class Records where he showed his inherent genius for composing and arranging. Enjoy his best tracks on this collection, including Caesar's Pad, Flapjacks, Romesville and many more.

Googie Rene is one of those unjustly overlooked musical figures from the rock ‘n’ roll years. Although he was the backbone of Class Records, Rene has remained something of an underground figure amongst the collector fraternity until the recent release of the Wham Bam CD on Ace. He is the son of label owner/songwriter Leon Rene (1902-1982) and was called Googie because that was the first word he ever uttered as an infant.

Googie Rene's "Romesville" is what was known a few years back as "Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music". A kind of swinging cocktail lounge groove with a jazz twist. Serenade In The Night" is the old 1930s tune played here with a cha-cha beat. Very enjoyable exotica music. I did like Romesville by Googie Rene better than Tales of Manhatten by Babs Gonzales, mainly because of the spoken songs. Not that it isn't enjoyable, they are great stories, just not my cup of tea (so to speak).
