Reggae (/ˈrɛɡeɪ/) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience

There are several subgenres of reggae music including various predecessors to the form. Reggae grew out of earlier musical styles such as mento, ska and rocksteady. Mento is a Jamaican folk music based on traditions brought to Jamaica by West African slaves which blended with later influences such as the quadrille.

The discography of American comedy music troupe The Lonely Island consists of three studio albums, one soundtrack album, twenty-four singles and thirty-six music videos. Group members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone began creating live skits, comedy shorts and music parodies together in the early 2000s, having met the previous decade, during their high school years.

FOR A SMALL CARIBBEAN ISLAND, Jamaica has had an extraordinary influence on music. Its supreme invention – reggae – emerged after the country gained independence from Britain in 1962, when bands started giving the jazz, swing, pop and rock’n’roll tunes they performed to US tourists in resort hotels a quirky local twist – notably a jerking off-beat guitar rhythm and patois-rich vocals. Peerless songs, breathtaking musicianship and, 40 years on, still box fresh. Jamaica’s failing economy in the ’70s meant recycling was a part of every day life, so it followed that, with studio time and recording tape expensive, producers like Lee Perry and King Tubby began taking old backing tracks and remixing them into sonically crackpot but undeniably brilliant ‘dubs’.

Singersroom features hit Reggae Music and Videos, Dancehall Music, and Island Music from top reggae, dancehall and R&B artists. Reggae star Christopher Martin returns with the brand new album, And Then, his second studio effort via VP Records. The project, which features 15 songs, follows up his Billboard Top 5 2017 debut, Big Deal. Headed by the singles "Bun Fi Bun," "Can't Dweet Again," "Come Back" and most recently "Life," the new album presents a well-rounded mix of ballads. Music: Zia Benjamin – Rudie.

It was also arguably the most significant reggae album ever. Not only did it expose the Wailers to an international audience and introduce people around the world to a music that had been confined largely to a Caribbean fan base; it also cemented a relationship that would help make Blackwell's Island Records one of the world's most successful and respected labels  . The album's story started on an autumn day in London in 1972, when three homesick and down-at-heel young Jamaican musicians strutted into the Soho offices of Island Records. Broke they may have been, but they were still supremely confident in their own abilities.
