My first encounter with Rameau came when I was seven years old. The piano was predominant in musical life in the Soviet Union at the time but Johann Sebastian Bach was the only composer to represent the baroque era. Ever-present. Album including Album cover Booklet (PDF). Formats & Prices.

The French Baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau wrote three books of Pièces de clavecin for the harpsichord. The first, Premier Livre de Pièces de Clavecin, was published in 1706; the second, Pièces de Clavessin, in 1724; and the third, Nouvelles Suites de Pièces de Clavecin, in 1726 or 1727. They were followed in 1741 by Pièces de clavecin en concerts, in which the harpsichord can either be accompanied by violin (or flute) and viola da gamba or played alone.

Album · 2016 · 14 Songs. By Jean-Philippe Rameau. 2. II. Air en rondeau pour les amours. Elgar: Symphony No. 1 in A-Flat Major, Op. 55. Staatskapelle Berlin & Daniel Barenboim. Denis Matsuev, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra & Mariss Jansons. Shostakovich Under Stalin's Shadow - Symphonies Nos. 5, 8 & 9; Suite from "Hamlet" (Live).

Jean-Philippe Rameau (September 25, 1683 - September 12, 1764) was one of the most important French composers and music theorists of the Baroque era. He replaced Jean-Baptiste Lully as the dominant composer of French opera, and was attacked by those who preferred Lully's style. Rameau's father was the organist at the cathedral of Dijon, and had his son practicing harpsichord at the earliest age possible. However, Rameau began his studies in the field of law before deciding that the study and composition of music was his true passion

These superb performances by Le Concert des Nations make a strong case for Rameau as a composer who is not merely talked about but actually performed with far greater frequency. Savall and the orchestra give scrupulous and (from the energy of the playing) delighted attention to the details of the scores; phrases are lovingly shaped, lines surge and leap, and the music practically bristles with excitement. Les Indes Galantes, suite. Jean-Philippe Rameau. Le Concert des Nations, Jordi Savall. Musette en Rondeau. 3. Air vif.

In a real way, this Rameau is a return to Pinnock’s roots, as he’d performed the Pièces de Clavecin en Concerts with the Gailliard Harpsichord Trio while in his teens, and recorded Rameau’s harpsichord works in the 1970s. This latest release shows him in excellent form. La poule is attentive to rhythmic values, without pushing the poor fowl’s tempo immoderately. The subtle hesitancy at the beginning of each clucking phrase works well, in a piece that is more difficult to play correctly than it seems at first glance. Both the Musette en Rondeau and the famed Tambourin from the same suite.
