Ornette Coleman dips a toe into the world of "fusion" with this first exclusion of his Prime Time band. I remember seeing a clip of Coleman (dressed in a shiny purple shirt with a massive collar) and the boys playing on some bland TV show in front of the straightest audience imaginable and tearing into something that freaked everyone the fuck out! I immediately had to find out more about this guy and I was led to this album by a feature in The Wire magazine called "100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening)". Taking the rhythms of African as refracted through the blues and rather than ending up with rock and roll producing Dancing In Your Head! The title is great as it both describes the music to a T but also shows the mix of intellectually stimulating thought behind Coleman's harmolodic theories and unexpectedly sweaty groove it conjures up.
