The late Bobby Womack left a great impression on an array of Billboard's charts - tallying hits on the R&B, pop, gospel, alternative and even dance/electronic tallies. Womack, who died on Friday, June 27 at age 70, notched 45 hit singles on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in his lifetime. Among those are two No. 1 hits: "Woman's Gotta Have It" and "Lookin' For a Love. Bobby Womack, Legendary Soul Singer, Dead at 70. The latter became his biggest hit on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, climbing to No. 10 in 1974
Robert Dwayne Womack (/ˈwoʊmæk/; March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Starting in the early 1960s as the lead singer of his family musical group the Valentinos and as Sam Cooke's backing guitarist, Womack's career spanned more than 60 years and multiple styles, including R&B, soul, rock and roll, doo-wop, and gospel.
If I had to make a greatest hits album of his, the excellent tracks would be fighting for room on one disc. How could they possibly have left off "Across 110th Street" not to mention "If You Think You're Lonely Now", "If you Don't Want My Love", "Where Do We Go From Here", even "Quicksand". I don't even claim to be a huge Womack fan, yet I know there's better stuff.
