Glen Gray & The Casa Loma Orchestra. The Sounds Of The Great Bands! Volume 7 - Today's Best ‎(LP, Album). Glen Gray & The Casa Loma Orchestra. The Sounds Of The Great Bands!

Includes Bugle Call Rag performed in the style of Benny Goodman and more classics. This is terrific Big Band Music done by one of the best, Glen Gray. I am 77 and old enough to know what I'm talking about, since I had the pleasure of hearing the big bands in person.

Some original bandleaders, such as Harry James and Artie Shaw, were recruited to re-create their own hits, but most of the work was done by two leaders, Glen Gray and Freddy Martin. This Eric CD combines a generous selection of 22 tracks from Martin's recordings, transferred in excellent sound from the original three-track stereo masters.

The Casa Loma Orchestra was an American dance band active from 1927 to 1963. With the decline of the big band business following the end of World War II, it disbanded in 1947

Glen Gray Knoblauch, better known as Glen Gray, (7 June 1900 – 23 August 1963) was a well-known jazz saxophonist and leader of the Casa Loma Orchestra. When he was 13 years old, Gray organized a group known as Spike's Jazz Band. A graduate of Roanoke High School, he later attended Illinois Wesleyan University but left to work as a bill clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad. In the late 1920s Gray was playing saxophone in the Orange Blossoms Band.

Ironically, as lead trombonist Billy Rauch noted, the band never actually played the Casa Loma{}. Thanks to silent way for the updates.
