Although the album was released in 2004, the song didn't enter the top five of the UK charts until August 2006. The album was produced by Ethan Johns, released on RCA Records, marketed by BMG and distributed by Stone Dwarf Records.

Ray continues to explore the sounds of the AM radio 1970's singer/songwriters combined with a psychedelic twist pretty consistent with the sound of his two previous releases. This album features some solid singles, unlike his last album which was more of a concept album and lacking in the "radio singles" category (although I loved his last album). The first single, "Such A Simple Thing", is simply gorgeous, with a return to a style more consistent with his early albums. Part of the Light" is another interesting chapter in Ray LaMontagne's growing catalogue. It is a slight step away from the concept-themed Ouroboros. This album shows him largely abandoning his early folk sound in favor of 60's retro, although a few beams of Trouble are here in the tracks "It's Always Been You" and "Let's Make it Last". I mostly hear echoes of Supernova here, which is not a bad thing.
