Pure is the fourteenth solo studio album by English musician Gary Numan, released in November 2000 by Eagle Records. Lyrically, Pure was seen as continuing the composer’s attacks on Christian dogma but in a somewhat more personal fashion than on Exile. The recording featured an expanded group of collaborators after the largely one-man efforts of Sacrifice (1994) and Exile. The Sulpher team of Rob Holliday and Monti contributed guitar and drums, respectively, as well as keyboards and additional production.

The noise is immense, but when considered with the lyrics it's truly haunting. It's a work of real beauty - real genius. Reply Notify me 3 Helpful.

How Gary has managed to pick himself up by his shoelaces since the dark days following "Outland" and "Machine and Soul" should really be the stuff for a Hollywood movie script. But pick himself up he did. This album is not only a work of art, it is contemporary. It sits well in the . Erscheinungsdatum November 2000. Labels Eagle Rock Entertainment Spitfire Records. He may have been roundly mocked by the populace in his alleged halcyon days for being a Tory, a fifth-rate Bowie impersonator, and having difficulty landin. You could see it as a reflection of the debt owed him by metal’s new breed (eg, Fear Factory, who covered ‘Cars’ after a fashion), but that doesn’t make it any more relevant.

I originally bought the standard edition of 'Pure' after hearing 'Torn' at a club - I loved the absolute and totally immersive sound when I first heard it: it was awe inspiring. Previously I'd thought of Tubeway Army etc whenever I thought of Gary Numan, so I was surprised to learn that this new industrial goliath was by the same artist. I loved the album and played it over and over - but it eventually found its way to the back of the shelf over time as new and other stuff caught my ear.I recently rediscovered the tour edition of this album, though, and I'm awe-struck all over again. My music player shuffled up 'A Prayer For The Unborn (Grayed Up Remix)' and I properly listened to the lyrics for the first time. Dark doesn't come close to describing the pain that is so evident in this track. A cursory bit of research apparently shows that Numan experienced a personal tragedy which inspired this music. If true, then the lyrics of 'A Prayer For The Unborn' are a heartbreaking testament to Numan's despair. The music is as beautiful as the lyrics are moving - the whole piece is so full of emotion that it's difficult to avoid getting caught up in it.The album is a dark industrial masterpiece full of massive, enveloping sound that echoes like a dark church. The noise is immense, but when considered with the lyrics it's truly haunting. It's a work of real beauty - real genius.
