Obscura, its name says it all, it contains mystery and those who have heard it know of the strength and energy that these first-class musicians transmit. His talent caused that in the year 2001, they played before more than 100 thousand people, in one of the biggest festivals of South America, as is the 'Rock Al Parque', in Bogotá, Colombia. The leader of the band, Enrique López, guitarist of 36 years, says that Obscura was formed in October of 1996. In the year 2000 came the studio album 'Fuera De Alcance', whose musical value was internationally recognized and gave them the 'passport' to travel to Colombia for the Rock Al Parque festival. In 2004 the album 'Vital Estructura' was released, one of the few Ecuadorian albums that were compiled in the Rolling Stones magazine and internationally recognized. The genre played by this band is classified between trash and death metal.

Obscura is the third full-length album by Canadian technical death metal band Gorguts. The album was released on June 23, 1998 through the now-defunct Olympic Recordings, but has since been reissued by a number of labels, in particular Century Media in 2015.

In terms of its towering complexity and unprecedented strangeness, Obscura has a lot more in common with Captain Beefheart's avant-rock monstrosity Trout Mask Replica than it does the latest Cannibal Corpse release. Not that Obscura isn't recognizably metal - the guitar distortion, the double-bass drumming, and the blasting snare beats are all firmly rooted in death metal. What makes this album different is exactly how far Gorguts pushes this death metal foundation.
