Coming Up is the third album by English alternative rock band Suede, released on 2 September 1996 through Nude Records. It was the band's first album since the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler, who was replaced by Richard Oakes. Also added to the band was keyboardist Neil Codling. The album was nominated for the 1997 Mercury Prize

The most striking thing about Coming Up is the simplicity.

Coming Up is still a very good album, though. Anderson's lyrics are considerably more superficial and humorous than they had been in the past; this would eventually become a problem, but on uptempo, fluorescent rock songs like "Beautiful Ones" and "Trash" it works because these songs are just so damned catchy. The huge success of Coming Up left Suede in a position to do basically anything they wanted with their next album, but it took three years for the band to put together the follow-up. Codling was at times bed-ridden with chronic fatigue syndrome after the grueling 18-month world tour in support of Coming Up, and Anderson had fallen deeper into drug addiction, especially crack.

Coming Up is the third album by English alternative rock band Suede, released on 2 September 1996 through Nude Records. The album was nominated for the 1997 Mercury Prize Contents. After the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler and the lack of commercial success with Dog Man Star and its singles, Suede were being somewhat dismissed by the British music press. Determined to bring Suede back into the mainstream, frontman Brett Anderson decided that the sound of the new album would be the complete opposite of Dog Man Star.

bought the vinyl edition, beautiful translucent yellow. but buyers beware, the packaging is poor, especially for the CD version. you can read the reviews on amazon

I stopped buying vinyl though Amazon. They are not packed well and almost ever vinyl Lp I've ordered from Amazon arrives with a seam split. I live in the US and I get better service from Amazon UK than the US Amazon site. I'm sure this is a Amazon UK item. I gues they pack the album much better than Amazon here in the US. They refuse to remove the Lp from the outer cover and during shipping the actual vinyl disc moves enough to cut through the Cover like a saw blade. I've sent many vinyl Lps back to Amazon for this specific reason. I generally buy special editions like this from sellers that have received a copy that is not ruined and ask them to remove the vinyl Lp still in the inner and then mail them in this manner. It cost me more, but arrives in a mint condition.

+1 that, although I adore the band, and the new content is truly worth your while and no filler, and I'm certain they've enhanced the tremolo effect on The Chemistry Between Us, the quality of the CD packaging was appalling. 3 of the 5 discs are on the back, held together by a very bad quality plastic lever like system that can break very easy. I returned mine for repacement immediately as one of the two levers holding the middle disc had already broken and the discs just fell out of the packaging.

Any idea where this was pressed? GZ like previous Edsel reissues?
