Xiu Xiu - Plays The Music Of Twin Peaks download mp3 album

Plays the Music of Twin Peaks is a tribute album by American experimental band Xiu Xiu. Composed of cover versions of the music from the Twin Peaks soundtrack, it was released exclusively as a Record Store Day release on April 16, 2016 by Polyvinyl in the United States and Bella Union in Europe. It was produced by former Xiu Xiu member Jherek Bischoff and mixed by Deerhoof member Greg Saunier.
Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art commissioned Xiu Xiu to reinterpret the music from Twin Peaks for their David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition. Since then, the band has performed select concerts all over the globe culminating in a proper studio album of the compositions. It’s difficult to overstate the cultural impact of Twin Peaks 25 years ago. Transferring his art-house cinema ethic to the small screen, David Lynch’s cerebral, surrealist murder mystery series towered like a desert skyscraper over the wastelands of mainstream US TV drama
Xiu Xiu's tribute to the music of Twin Peaks is one of their most haunting and beautiful LPs in years. Hard to measure and, at times, hard to digest, they are experimental in the most literal meaning-not musicians exploring "experimental genres" of music, but ones who actually experiment, leading to music whose ideas travel the map so broadly as to be deemed unclassifiable when put together. This approach has led the band to develop passionate followers but also put themselves in a position where these constant new approaches not only alienate the mainstream but past fans as well. Given this perspective, the band’s latest release, Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, makes a lot of sense
From Australia over Europe to North America, Xiu Xiu has performed their interpretation of the Twin Peaks soundtrack to captivated crowds across the world since it was commissioned by the Gallery of Modern Art for their David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition in March 2015. Due to the overwhelming support and demand, their visceral take on Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch’s compositions was captured on a studio album with the help of producer Jherek Bischoff and mixer Greg Saunier.

After selling out the Record Store Day exclusive pressing and landing on the Billboard Top 200, Xiu Xiu are back with the wide release of Plays The Music of Twin Peaks. If you are a fan of either Xiu Xiu or Twin Peaks you will at the very least find this album interesting. I'm not going to deny, I have to be in a certain mood to appreciate Xiu Xiu as they can be pretty experimental and this album is no exception. That being said, I always appreciate what they do and here they seem to take the moody atmosphere of Twin Peaks and somehow make it bother more sad and more menacing at the same time while still staying true to its mystery. Transferring his art-house cinema ethic to the small screen, David Lynch’s cerebral, surrealist murder mystery series towered like a desert skyscraper over the wastelands of mainstream US TV drama
Nevertheless, Xiu Xiu Plays the Music of Twin Peaks is an inspired showcase for the band's range, as well as an homage that's true to both artists' muses. 1. Laura Palmer's Theme.
Spotlight 35 years later, Mariya Takeuchi's 'Plastic Love' has an official music video.
