Sadly Tjolgtjar are a one-man band, and not in the same league as Old Corpse Road, but we’ll come back to that anon. The contributions of the Meads more than makes up for Tjolgtjar’s failings. It also comes as no surprise that the Meads should draw inspiration from the splendidly named Catholic martyr Chidiock Tichborne, who was a 16th century English conspirator and poet, the Meads have always displayed a far greater historical and cultural awareness than most. Chidiock was a Catholic in the reign of Elizabeth I, not the safest thing to be in her dictatorship.

Although Taste the Divine Wrath may have counted among my most awaited releases of the year for black metal, I don't feel so amazed by either side of the split. The Meads of Asphodel have delivered everything I imagined they would, but nothing they recorded dares to impress me more than I thought it would. Their last LP Sonderkommando had plenty of the quintessential Meads personality and eclecticism, but managed to sound like a brand new stage in their development simultaneously. The Meads of Asphodel have stuck much closer to home with the five tracks here. It is strange that I could honestly call The Meads of Asphodel the relatively 'safe bet' on this split. Tjolgtjar's awkward bedroom psychedaelia is transgressive and enjoyable, but I'd be hard pressed to call it great material, much less recommend it to Meads fans. At the very least, Taste the Divine wrath manages to leave an impression.
This year's interesting Taste The Divine Wrath split sees the peculiar British group teaming up with black metal band Tjolgtjar, resulting in two sounds that, while somewhat simplistic, still retain a great feeling of uniqueness. Not a bad thing though, and the cover of You've Got The Love is pretty hilarious. The Tjolgtjar side aint half bad either. - Do you feel blame? Are you mad?
It’s pretty tough to find a band that complements The Meads‘ nt ck metal/Middle Eastern mix, and so far they’ve yet to get the balance right.

The Meads of Asphodel, Tjolgtjar – Taste of Divine Wrath. Posted on June 3, 2015 by Steve Tovey. The Meads of Asphodel are no strangers to split LPs, nor is Tjolgtjar for that matter, but this is the first time the pair team up for a co-creation. The result is Taste of Divine Wrath (Eternal Death). The Meads of Asphodel has one of the best song titles I have seen in a while: ‘An Ebullient Prelude to a Loathsomely Grim End’. This short intro has a high level of bombast and the promised ebullience with its orchestra and choir, and gives way to the sufficiently grim ‘Chidiock Tichborne’ . Slipknot’s recent new single from their forthcoming new album, ‘All Out Life’ will now be the weekly theme for WWE’s NXT. The track will be heard every Wednesday at 8/7 CST on the award-winning WWE network.
