Mícheál Seosamh Ó Domhnaill was born 7 October 1951 in Kells, County Meath, Ireland. His father, Aodh, was a teacher, a singer, and a collector of traditional music for the Irish Folklore Commission. His mother, Bríd, was a choral singer. Upon the dissolution of the Bothy Band, Ó Domhnaill and fiddler Kevin Burke formed a duo and recorded the album Promenade (1979). Co-produced by Ó Domhnaill and Gerry O'Beirne for Mulligan Records, the album has been called "one of the finest duets ever recorded in Irish traditional music"

Portland is a studio album by Kevin Burke and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, released in 1982 by Green Linnet Records (SIF 1041). This is the second and final album by this duo who first played together with the popular Irish traditional group The Bothy Band.

Hi folks, can anyone recommend a Kevin Burke album as good as this? ( or any album as good as this! ). Is Promenade in the same vein ? How about in Tandem with Ged Foley? Thanks for any recommendations. I don’t know the details, but at least some of the tracks on Portland sound like they dubbed the fiddle on top of itself-interesting "chorus" effect, but not something I want to listen to ad infinitum.

Another fine display from Kevin Burke, Portland includes Burke on fiddle alongside Mícheál Ó Domhnaill on vocals, guitar, and harmonium.

I loved that record and then I come to find out that Kevin Burke lives in Portland and I found the album Portland, which is tremendous. In the '70s, he and Mícheál Domhnaill had split from a band called The Bothy Band, who were kind of like a precursor to groups like The Pogues. They were hippies that made traditional music their own. The difference was that they were also legendary hotshot players. I think Kevin Burke just got elected musician of the year
