Les Chants Magnétiques (English title: Magnetic Fields) is the fifth studio album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, released on Disques Dreyfus on 22 May 1981. The album was one of the first records to use sampling as a musical element and represents a departure from the sound of Jarre's previous efforts. The long first track consists of three distinct movements, the slower second movement being heavily laden with sample work

Jean-Michel Basquiat. Coinciding with the "Boom for Real" documentary, if you happen to be in New York between May 13 and june 10, you can catch a group show from some of JM's peers, including Al Diaz(of SAMO fame) and Lee Quiñones at the Howl!

For the majority of Jean-Michel Blais’ 31-years, he’s been playing piano in some form or another. The Quebec-born pianest first began improvising on his family’s organ at 9 and over two decades later he brings some of that childlike wonder to his debut album Il. On it, Blais condenses two years worth of daily improvisations into a blindingly bright 28-minute release exploring piano textures influenced by Erik Satie and minimalist virtuosos including Lubomyr Melnyk and Philip Glass

The CD issue of Jean-Michel Jarre's soundtrack to the Jean Chapon film Les Granges Brulées has been long overdue. An integral but less well-known part of the composer's catalog, it marks Jarre's first full immersion into film scoring and as such, it is an inquisitive, speculative works that illustrates concept more than it does nuance. In this case that's a plus. The themes here are rarely extended; they shift and jar the listener episodically, coursing form one "major" scene to the next without bothering much with serial elements

View Untitled (Fallen Angel) by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold at Contemporary Art Part I on 15 May 2008, 7pm New York. Learn more about the piece and artist, and its final selling price. Splicing and juxtaposing images and ideas from the two worlds he straddled during 1981 would eventually establish his signature style. Dominated by the figure of a large angel, rendered in staccatoed red, yellow and black lines, floating against a luminous blue background, Untitled (Fallen Angel) is a supreme example of Basquiat’s early artistic output.
