Walden or Life in the Woods is non-fiction work by American Poet Henry David Thoreau known for his unique thoughts on transcendentalism. Walden narrates his life on an isolated wood house where he resided for two years, two months and two days. Thoreau argues that humans can live a satisfying life with self-reliance and limited luxury. Though his wood house was located in any island or deserted location, it still gave him the experience of living with nature.
Henry David Thoreau was a pretty brilliant guy, but he didn't feel the need to answer to anyone. When The Advancement of Society asked him what kind of scientist he was, he refused to give a clear response. In his Journal, he writes, "I am a mystic, a transcendentalist, and a natural philosopher to boot" (source).
