The Jealous Sound was an American band based in Los Angeles that, as of August 2012, consisted of vocalist and guitarist, Blair Shehan (formerly of Knapsack), guitarist Michael Richardson, bassist, Jeremy Tappero, and drummer, Bob Penn. In 2012, Richardson (formerly of the American three-piece rock band, The New Trust) replaced original member, Pedro Benito (formerly of Sunday's Best) on lead guitar. Benito has moved into film and television score composition
This is ultra-catchy emo-punkish-pop with clever lyrics, full production and Blair's undeniably warm and inviting vocals it's a stunning album and gets caught in my head for days. I hope they're still touring (come to Minneapolis) and making music!!!!
In the case of the Jealous Sound, simultaneously a lot and a little. That's how long it's been since the band released its full-length debut, Kill Them with Kindness, winning over critics and fans alike with its passionate, powerful, and mature post-grunge melodies
Recorded at Foo Fighters' Studio 606 by their longtime engineer John Lousteau, A Gentle Reminder raises the production values compared to the Jealous Sound's previous efforts, lending an overall crispness and more solid foundation for Shehan's powerhouse vocals and the rest of the gang (co-founding guitarist Pedro Benito, alternating bassists Nate Mendel and Josh.
Burst, and I'm awake Now not straight from these woods we had known And in the dark they gathered there With ropes woven from strands of your hair. And like these kings that came before I fell asleep on this strange forest floor And they would spirit you away And in the dances you gave up your throne. With these words that we exchange This isn't finished I couldn't bare to let you go I couldn't bare to let you go Exhausted and estranged Testing your limits This isn't fair, I didn't know I couldn't bare to let you go. And it's a risk, but I resist Now it's my wish that you will somehow And you have everything you need With this compass and map you ignore You can't make yourself believe Discontent but you still wanted more And at the swollen riverbank You tried to cross But you sank like a stone.
Much will be written about the Jealous Sound's return from nearly a decade of dormancy with A Gentle Reminder, and that's because it's a compelling story-after knocking on the door of major labels in the early ’00s, racking up tons of positive press for their debut full-length Kill Them With Kindness and hitting the road with everyone. The album's only real fault is its unwavering consistency from track to track. There aren't enough differences in tempo and dynamics to really set too many of the songs apart from one another, instead letting a number of them blend together into a sort of mega-mix. When Shehan finally lets 'er rip on the chorus of Equilbrium, you can't help but get excited that a new element has been added into the equation. Still, it's not like these songs are bad by any stretch of the imagination.
I guess that is why i gave this album a 3 instead of a 5. I have only listened through the entire album three times, and I am a knapsack, jealous sound fan, and I am challenged at this time to rate this album higher. Listening intently to the flow of the album I was waiting (maybe too much so) for the anxious arms type of break out that adds punctuatuion to an album.
