Mother's Finest is an American funk rock band founded in Atlanta, Georgia, by the vocal duo of Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy and Glenn "Doc" Murdock in 1970 when the pair met up with guitarist Gary "Moses Mo" Moore and bassist Jerry "Wyzard" Seay. Their music is a blend of funky rhythms, heavy rock guitars and expressive soul/R&B-style vocals.

The best live band! Heavier than anything else, by sheer attitude. Organic live performances that were different every night. They played tight but loose. Free enough to improvise and push the limit on songs, tight enough to always fall back into place. Multiple bands have come very close to them, but none can ever master their creation. Almost ALL live shows these days owe a debt to KISS for blazing the trail and showing the world what a live show should strive to be. Before KISS live shows were just lacking. Everything live today can be traced back to KISS.

Finest Moment: But both sides are at least evident in the wonderfully disorienting bildungsroman Crawling Up the Stairs. 43. screaming females. Why They’re Not Higher: Although Beach Slang consist of music-scene vets, they’re still early in their career: The band merely has two EPs to their name, and their debut album, The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us, isn’t even out until October 30. Finest Moment: American Girls and French Kisses, from the Cheap Thrills On A Dead End Street EP.
