Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation - Warning - The original version of the song covered by Ozzie and Black Sabbath on their first album. Issued in the UK in 1967 on Blue Horizon. The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation ( Doctor's Dunbar Prescription ) ( full album )1969 - YouTube.

On their self-titled debut album, the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation flashed a British blues-rock approach that was rather similar to that of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers circa 1967. That was unsurprising considering that leader and drummer Dunbar had played on the Bluesbreakers' 1967 A Hard Road album, and that bassist Alex Dmochowski would later play with Mayall himself

Although a fourth Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation album (Remains to Be Heard) would be cobbled together from outtakes and recordings done without Dunbar, their third LP, To Mum, From Aynsley and the Boys, was truly the final proper full-length release by the original group. Dunbar had expressed some interest in moving further afield from the blues-rock format around the time the record was done, and the addition of keyboardist Tommy Eyre (from the Grease Band) to the lineup was one step in that direction. Still, much of To Mum, From Aynsley and the Boys is pretty standard late-'60s British blues-rock, in line with the previous two albums by the band. Eyre does inject some of the arrangements with a jazzy, more R&B feel, particularly on "Leaving Right Away" and the instrumental "Unheard," the latter of which sounds like a rock band trying to do modern jazz and finding themselves a bit out of their depth.

Aynsley Dunbar grew up in Liverpool and by his mid teens was already playing in local jazz bands, inspired as he was by the great American swing drummers like Buddy Rich and Joe Morello. He worked his way through the ranks of Liverpool beat bands including comedian Freddie Star’s band, The Flamingos and the Mojos where Sweeney star Lewis Collins was his bass partner. A criminally overlooked addition to the British Blues scene of the late & the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation recorded some classic albums that should be in the collection of any lover of the genre. This excellent twofer collects the first two of the four albums they recorded. The quality of the music is superb, they really captured the feel of genuine American blues, but managed to stamp it with a distinctly British accent.

The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation issued a number of albums. Dunbar was later the drummer for Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, featuring on albums such as Waka/Jawaka, and The Grand Wazoo, as well as the film 200 Motels. In 1974 he played on the soundtrack for "Down and Dirty Duck", a Chuck Swenson adult animated movie. 78 BPM. Leaving Right Away. To Mum, From Aynsley and the Boys.
