of course we know it wasn't the true debut bu. .this is what exploded Emerson Lake and Palmer to the forefront of progressive rock. This is a recent release from Eagle Vision that is a single double sided CD disk. The first side is a portion of their landmark 'debut' performance at the Isle of Wight August 29, 1970. The first side of the disk contains a full version of their interpetation of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition'.
Although it was technically the band's second show together, rock historians generally regard this performance as the real debut of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The first ELP album was still months away and no one in the crowd had ever heard of the band or its music, but the trio put on a great show that was touted as a huge popular and critical success.
Still, Isle of Wight 1970 and the seventy-minute documentary on the DVD side, The Birth of a Band-featuring live footage from the performance and recent interviews-paint a vivid picture of a group that could only have emerged at a time when nothing was off-limits and anything was possible. Track Listing: CD Side: Pictures at an Exhibition; Take a Pebble; Rondo; Nutrocker. DVD Side: . audio mix; 70-minute The Birth of a Band documentary.

Since 1968, the Isle Of Wight Festival has gathered every iconic UK act and from the States, making it one of the most prolific festivals in music history. In 1970 the festival had grown significantly to the point where it actually outgrew itself; for 32 years after this the isle of Wight did not see another large scale music gathering. It’s estimated that the crowds were well in excess of half a million. Fans were drawn to what was one of the most ambitious line-ups ever put together for a festival on British soil, with artists from both sides of the Atlantic.
