Aztec Camera were a Scottish pop/new wave band formed by Roddy Frame, the group's singer, songwriter, and only consistent member. Formed in 1980, Aztec Camera released a total of six albums: High Land, Hard Rain (1983), Knife (1984), Love (1987), Stray (1990), Dreamland (1993) and Frestonia (1995). The band garnered popular success for the songs "Oblivious", "Somewhere in My Heart" and "Good Morning Britain" (a duet with former Clash guitarist Mick Jones).

High Land, Hard Rain is the debut album by jangle pop band Aztec Camera, released in 1983. Three tracks from the album originally appeared on the Oblivious EP which reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1983. The album itself reached number 22 on the UK Albums Chart. The majority of the album was recorded at the ICC Studios in Eastbourne. Down the Dip" was inspired by a local East Kilbride pub located close to Duncanrig Secondary School, Roddy Frame's high school.

Aztec Camera's 1983 album High Land, Hard Rain showcases frontman Roddy Frame at his most blissfully unaware, creating soulful post-punk with pieces that weren’t neccessarily supposed to fit together. This 30th Anniversary Reissue includes B-sides, remixes and live radio sessions from the period. EAC extraction logfile from 18. April 2014, 13:52. Aztec Camera, High Land, Hard Rain Disc1. High Land, Hard Rain was the 1983 debut album by the Scottish new wave or "jangle pop" band Aztec Camera. It features singles such as "Oblivious," "Walk Out To Winter" and "Pillar To Post. Aztec Camera's "High Land, Hard Rain" is one of many albums I own that took a LONG time to like. I bought it with the knowledge that it was a monumental and thus historically influential album in the 80's - it was very unique and well-produced at the time. The other interesting fact is that it was all done by a seventeen year-old! Every song here is good, but the problem with most of them is that Roddy Frame's voice isn't all that appealing - it has a boyish nature to it and it just isn't all that good (this is the reason I didn't like it at first).

Was able to pick this up dirt cheap, so I went for it! Nice booklet...and that's about it. The sound is dull and flat. A must to avoid! Why would you bother to re-release this and not remaster it? Has left a really bad taste in my mouth over Edsel, who are now joining the ranks of junk re-issue labels ala Cherry Red. The fans deserve better.
  • Zeks Horde
The recordings are NOT remastered. There is an audio glitch present on track 17.
  • Bliss
No problem. There were problems with Blancmange too! The Megamix isn't a Megamix, for example. :-/

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! I hate buying fancy reissues when the label doesn't even bother to remaster them. I'm surprised at Edsel as they did such a nice job on the Blancmange, EBTG and Thompson Twins. Shame on you Edsel!
