Jean-Luc Ponty (born 29 September 1942) is a French jazz violinist and composer. Ponty was born into a family of classical musicians on 29 September 1942 in Avranches, France. His father taught violin, his mother taught piano. At sixteen, he was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating two years later with the institution's highest honor, Premier Prix (first prize). He was hired by the Concerts Lamoureux symphony in which he played for three years.

This 2000 release should have been titled The Very Best of Jean-Luc Ponty's Atlantic Years because it contains some of the best recordings that he made during his stay at Atlantic from 1975-1985. The CD doesn't get into Ponty's pre-Atlantic work, some of which is essentially straight-ahead jazz; nor does it get into his Columbia or Epic output of the late '80s and early '90s. Although Ponty's pre-Atlantic and post-Atlantic recordings are noteworthy, it was during his stay at Atlantic that the French violinist did his most important, innovative, and essential work.

Better Late Than Never is the debut live album by the AndersonPonty Band, released in September 2015. The AndersonPonty Band is a progressive rock supergroup formed in Summer 2014, centered around French violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and singer/songwriter and founding member of Yes, Jon Anderson. Jean-Luc Ponty was originally approached by Jon Anderson with the idea of working together as far back as the 1980s, but the idea didn't come to fruition until about 30 years later

Only for completionists (0%). The best that represnts the best. This compilation serves excellently for those who have been familiar with Jean Luc Ponty or those who are new to his music but is willing to know how the music sounds like. I must admit Ponty is no mean fiddler, but I don't seen the point of most of this music, which does not excite or move me. Most of the pieces follow exactly the same pattern. Guitar or keyboards play some pretty arpeggios, or else the band as a whole lay down a nice little groove, and a couple of instrumentalists get their chances to execute solos.
