She is supported by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the brilliant Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu. A fascinating booklet note by Hewitt herself completes this disc which is sure to delight her ever-increasing legion of fans. This first Hewitt-Lintu collaboration on disc was worth waiting for to put it mildly. The sturdy A Minor Concerto has never sounded more centred and alive. Performer: Angela Hewitt. Hewitt does a little better on the other two Introduction pieces but it is in the Concerto that her playing is not up to par. She takes the movements from the allegro moderato 1st and 3rd movements way too slow. Her playing is often too soft, you will hear the piano disappear because the orchestra drowns it out completely in some parts. At almost 2. 0 for this disc i don't recommend it. This is a good pick only if you want the 2 introductions as well.

Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Hannu Lintu - conductor, 2011). Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

92, and Introduction and Concert-Allegro, Op. 134, have not been frequently performed. Both were written rather quickly for Clara Schumann and are rather episodic virtuoso works. The Introduction and Concert-Allegro was written a few months before Schumann's. It's hard to hear in its rambling structure the claims that have been made for the subtleties of Schumann's late music, but Schumann himself apparently valued it highly: from his asylum bed he dedicated it to his young admirer, Brahms

There's so much beauty, subtlety and originality in Hewitt's first movemen. he two rarer works for piano and orchestra are a treat-especially the Introduction and Concert-Allegro, Op 13. ewitt and Lintu give its recurrent falling sixth a wonderful, sensual scrunchines. his recording should be applauded for its passion, detail, courage and commitment’ (BBC Music Magazine). Hewitt's perfect handling of the breathtakingly lovely opening of the Introduction & Allegro appassionato would melt the hardest of hearts’ (The Observer).

Angela Hewitt, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin/Lintu (Hyperion). Normally it's a helter-skelter race to the finish, but here Hewitt and Hannu Lintu choose a surprisingly stately pace, reflecting Schumann's actual metronome marking and bringing out the movement's swinging, waltz-like character. It's an example of Hewitt's meticulous attention to detail that is always so evident, whether she's playing Bach or Messiaen. Her perfect handling of the breathtakingly lovely opening of the Introduction and Allegro appassionato would melt the hardest of hearts.

Given Angela Hewitt’s Bachian prowess, her careful contouring of the Concerto first movement’s canonic overlapping voices and her intelligent, clear delineation of the finale’s swirling passagework come as no surprise. Apart from the first-desk soloists emerging relatively recessed in relation to the piano (the keyboard/oboe exchanges), the first movement stands out for its thrust, sweep, and vigorous timpani. Concerto for Piano & Orchestra in A minor Op. 54; Introduction and Allegro appassionato Op. 92; Introduction and Concert-Allegro Op. 134. Hewitt, Angela (piano). Lintu, Hannu (conductor).

The Introduction and Allegro appassionato, Op. 92 is a fully fledged mini-concerto which finds Hewitt on sparkling form. She is matched at every turn by Lintu, who draws the finest playing from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. The piano enjoys intimate exchanges with the orchestra, the conductor Hannu Lintu bringing out the score’s essential instrumental timbres with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester and phrasing them in such a way as to forge a complementary foil to the piano’s discreet world of expression.
