What are the best albums by Kraftwerk? BestEverAlbums. com brings together thousands of 'greatest ever album' charts and calculates an overall ranking. Kraftwerk is ranked number 138 in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 25,767.

The concept album belongs to the late 1960s as a cultural phenomenon, a time of wilful excess in sound, thought and ego. Kraftwerk made concept albums, too, although theirs were set and fixed on more minimal lines. Take this 22-minute journey from door slam and accelerator roar – a device echoed in Roxy Music’s Love Is the Drug a year later – through a largely blissful, but occasionally sinister, on-the-road reverie. Autobahn’s genius lies in its simplicity. Kraftwerk’s explorations of German identity and the idea of Europe were always interesting, especially at a time when the iron curtain hung heavily. This was the title track of an album that began with a sweet major-key ditty called Europe Endless, and ended with its reprise, Endless Endless, both projecting from the speakers like beacons of hope (unless you equated the titles with older visions of empire). This track felt different.

10‘Kraftwerk’ (1970) Kraftwerk’s debut album barely exists. It’s been quietly ushered out of the official records by de facto leader Hütter and certainly won’t be making an appearance at the Turbine Hall anytime soon. It’s not tearing up any trees in the 31st century electronica stakes, but it’s still a fascinating record. More of a full band at this point, Kraftwerk are skirting around the edges of free jazz on ‘Ruckzuck’ – with Schneider mucking about on the flute, of all things, and not for the last time – and getting motorik on the epic ‘Stratovarius’

The Mix is a 1991 remix album by German electronic music band Kraftwerk. It featured re-recorded and in some cases re-arranged versions of a selection of songs which had originally appeared on the albums Autobahn through Electric Café. Ralf Hütter stated in interviews that he regarded The Mix as a type of live album, as it captured the results of the band's continual digital improvisations in their Kling Klang studio.

The album is Kraftwerk at its most melancholy and oblique- wreathed in decaying fuzz and crackle and ghostly background tones. It's also where the band's remastering job is least effective. Trans-Europe Express, on the other hand, is Kraftwerk hitting peaks of sublime clarity.

로필: Krautrock electronic experimental electro-pop band from Düsseldorf, Germany, formed in 1970. Formerly known as Organisation, Kraftwerk debuted live as the trio of Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider-Esleben and Charly Weiss at the Tivoli Popfestival, Aachen on 11 July 1970. Klaus Dinger took over as drummer after that. The Kraftwerk performance of this track is absolutely explicit. In the world of today this is our daily life. People spending half of their days and nights watching all kind of screens, computing, living automatically, frantically masturbating with multitasking, losing ground with anything that is not demarked by the function of the task itself.

Former Kraftwerk percussionist Karl Bartos features in the new issue of Uncut (February 2013, Take 189), out now, discussing the upcoming Kraftwerk retrospective shows in London, and his own new solo album, Off The Record. As a companion piece, here’s Ralf Hütter taking us through the high points of Kraftwerk’s discography in a fascinating ‘album by album’ from Uncut's October 2009 issue (Take 149). We received a Disco Award for that album in America – Best European Disco Band or something, it was very funny. Kraftwerk, and pre-Kraftwerk, was like seven years of working. People think you walk into a studio, turn some knobs and a new album is finished.
