Hot Water Music is a punk rock band from Gainesville, Florida. The members of the band are Chuck Ragan, Chris Wollard (both lead vocals and guitar), Jason Black (bass), and George Rebelo (drums) first formed in 1993. They are represented by David "Beno" Benveniste's Velvet Hammer Music and Management Group. The band's name was taken from the collection of short stories by Charles Bukowski of the same name.

Such was the case with the new Hot Water Music album, The New What Next - I've had a burn of it in a paper sleeve from Epitaph since late July, and have listened to that CD-R more times than I can count. But here's where the kicker comes in: About two weeks ago, the finished version of the album shows up in my mailbox, and surprise of surprises, the album has been completely re-sequenced. Only one of the disc's 12 tracks remained in the same place (that song being "The End Of The Line," one of the best songs HWM have ever put to tape). There is obviously a Hot Water Music formula: The band has released over 130 songs to date, spanning six full-length albums as well as god-knows-how-many 7-inches, compilations, and the like. You don't have that kind of output without developing some sort of song guide.

Essentially, there are three eras of Hot Water Music-although their lineup of Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard, bassist Jason Black, and drummer George Rebelo hasn't shifted. There's the band’s initial, scrappy albums during their No Idea Records days, the more polished Epitaph Records-era recordings, and the latest chapter of the band which includes 2012's Exister, their first new full length in eight years. I think it would be The New What Next.
