Picture This found Huey Lewis and the News developing a signature sound, but they truly came into their own on their third album, Sports. It's true that the record holds together better than its predecessors because it has a clear, professional production, but the real key is the songs. Where their previous albums were cluttered with generic filler, nearly every song on Sports has a huge hook.
Sports is certified 7x Platinum in the US by the RIAA. In May of 2013, a 2 CD thirtieth anniversary reissue of Sports is released featuring a remastered version of the original album, along with a second disc featuring live versions of the songs recorded during the 80’s and in 2012. Sports spends one week at number one on the Billboard Top 200 on June 30, 1984, is certified 7x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

Although no one's going to mistake the San Francisco noise-pop trio's Slumberland debut, Sports, for an album produced at Abbey Road, the record is everything that a lot of modern indie rock is frequently failing to be in 2010: loud, immediate, and engaging, with a strong melodic sense of songwriting to tie it all together
