Paris Blues is a 1961 American drama film made on location in Paris, starring Sidney Poitier as expatriate jazz saxophonist Eddie Cook, and Paul Newman as trombone-playing Ram Bowen. The two men romance two vacationing American tourists, Connie Lampson (Diahann Carroll) and Lillian Corning (Joanne Woodward) respectively. The film also deals with American racism of the time contrasted with Paris's open acceptance of black people. The film was based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Harold Flender.

Richards has described listening to Muddy Waters for the first time as "the most powerful music I had ever heard – the most expressive. Jagger, meanwhile, once said this music "seemed the most real thing" to his young ears. Inevitably, their mutual interest bled over into the Rolling Stones' recorded output, both in the form of cover tunes and then blues-influenced originals. If there had been any initial push back to the idea of a group of . kids taking on this tradition, the sentiment had long-since changed by the time they'd created stone-cold classics like 1968's "No Expectations," 1969's "Midnight Rambler" and 1972's "Stop Breaking Down

As Keith Richards tells it, the Rolling Stones' first-ever all-blues album is the result of the band learning how to play in the unfamiliar surroundings of Mark Knopfler's British Grove Studios. To ease into the new place, the Stones decided to knock out a version of Little Walter's "Blue and Lonesome" and it sounded good enough that the band decided to cut a few more covers, winding up with a full album of Chicago blues in a few days. The Stones haven't worked at such swift speed in decades - not since the early '60s, when they were churning out two albums.
