As a less celebrated outing that combined funk, jazz, and soul in a vocal format, he also produced this obscure album by the 3 Pieces, who were naturally a trio, though some other musicians played on the LP, including Ray Parker, J. who is responsible for the guitar on "Shortnin' Bread. They were no mere Byrd vehicle, with the group writing all of the material except for the instrumental cover of "Shortnin' Bread.

Original 1975 Fantasy release has slightly different lettering (spacing) & wording on the cover spine to the Fantasy re-issue - mainly 'Printed in USA' (The re-issue does not have this on spine). I will try to post pics to compare: Re-issue spine with orig. issue spine below it

jezbish Original 1975 Fantasy release has slightly different lettering / wording on the cover spine to the Fantasy re-issue - mainly 'Printed in USA' (The re-ssue does not have this on spine) Hello, I am trying to identify what the status of my copy is, my spine has: "Fantasy Stereo F-9476 The 3 Pieces Vibes of Truth". The matrix code and inner sleeve is as the original (F-9476 on top right of the back cover plus the text: ℗ 1975, Fantasy ® Records Tenth and Parker Berkeley, CA. 94710 right above the picture in the middle.)Could this be a bootleg or a reissue? Thanks

The track "If Only I Could Prove To You" has to be one of the most sublime grooves I've ever heard, the strings are perfect, goosebumps everytime I hear this tune. If only it was longer.

This album has just been re-issued by BGP Records on CD. A Jazz Funk masterpiece of an album and just about impossible to get a hold of on CD until now. Produced by Donald Byrd and contains many absolute gems. Well worth checking out. A Jazz Funk collector friend of mine told me recently that this album used to sell for £200 a copy on vinyl back in the day. That is how good it is.
