Barton Carroll, best known as a guitarist with the band Crooked Fingers, recorded Love & War, his second solo album, in 2001, and it took five years before a record company decided to release it. (Carroll's first album, Barton Carroll, recorded in 1999, remained unreleased. That gap may be explained by the album's stark, uncompromising style. Carroll sings in a rough tenor, often straining toward falsetto, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar for the most part, with occasional other instruments added.
Barton Carroll is one of the few exceptions. After touring and recording with Crooked Fingers, Carroll decided to develop his solo career with his second album, Love & War. With guitar in hand, Carroll delicately crafts engaging stories through a diverse musical array of acoustic and electric guitar styles. From teenage war refugees to mothers in times of financial depression, Carroll often uses characters from the past as a tool for musical creation. With aged vocals that are comparable to Nick Cave, Carroll uses all of his skills to create extremely memorable songs
Love and War is the second studio album by American recording artist Tamar Braxton. The album was released on September 3, 2013, by Epic Records and Streamline Records. Artist Biography by William Ruhlmann. Seattle-based musician Barton Carroll began touring with Crooked Fingers in 2002, playing guitar, steel guitar, and upright bass. He appeared on the Crooked Fingers albums Crooked Fingers and Dignity and Shame. He also served as an accompanist with Azure Ray, Dolorean, and Micah P. Hinson. On October 17, 2006, Skybucket Records released his second solo album, Love & War. The record had been recorded in 2001; Carroll 's first album, a self-titled effort, went unreleased after being recorded in 1999
