Altered State biography ALTERED STATE is a California band that combines Primus-like metal with a Pink Floyd understanding of art pop production, and should not be confused with avant rock band Altered States or pop-rockers Alter'd State. The group was formed in Huntington Beach in 1990 by Gregory MARKEL(vocals, guitar), Chip MORELAND(drums), Howard ULYATE(bass) and Curtis MATHEWSON(guitar, keyboards) from the ashes of SHOW of HANDS. This lineup was picked up by Warner Records which released their self-titled debut in 1991. Despite a couple of radio hits, 'Dos' was to be the quartet's last album (so far). In 1995, Altered State split up and its members sought separate solo careers. However, in 2006 the band reformed briefly with Markel and Moreland reprising their roles, joined by Christian NESMITH on guitar (the son of the Monkee) and Howard Ulyate, the original bassist.

Altered State (Stu Dent album). Altered State is the first studio album by Albany, New York hip hop musician Stu Dent, better known by the moniker Sev Statik. Sev Statik, real name Joseph Evans, created the Stu Dent pseudonym due to contractual obligations with Tunnel Rats, a group of which he was a member at the time. Evans' debut studio album as Sev Statik, Speak Life, would be released in 2002.

Altered State Releases 1992 "End Summer" Demo From The Vault And "Ghost Beside My Bed" 20th Anniversary Video Interview. Very few artists or bands in the hard rock genre get to the creative place Greg Markel & co. found on this, Altered State's second album, Dos. While their Warner Brothers debut has its moments, it pales starkly to Dos, which soars to grand, epic heights under the expansive vision of producer Ben Grosse. Lyrically, Markel delves into demons few dare to glimpse: fear ("Made of Gasoline" - notice the car crash, co-inciding with opening CRASH cymbal!), family ("Strong As I Am"), and misanthropy (the sonic barrage that is "Where Is Harrison Ford?").
