EP. By Dylan Powell · On September 26, 2011. Misser is a project that will lie under the radar. Even though it features members of two of the freshest up-and-coming bands (Tim Landers of Transit and Brad Wiseman of This Time Next Year), Misser won’t get much recognition. Sometimes, huge things come in small packages, and Misser’s debut EP titled Problems. is concrete proof of that phrase. Three three-minute songs are all they need to get their point across. What is their point? Well, it’s easy to say that the point of Misser is to indulge in what started the whole pop-punk genre while still enjoying what makes the genre such a success today. Landers and Wiseman do a superb job at getting straight to the point with chunky, full guitar riffs and passionate back-and-forth vocals.

That recording approach informs Problems, Fields' second album of unadulterated James Brown worship aimed at the burgeoning deep-funk revival scene, though it isn't as scratchy-sounding as much of Soul Fire's output. Initially, Problems might be a bit of a letdown after the blazing funk firestorm that was Let's Get a Groove On. It's just as raw and organic, to be sure, but lacks a certain immediacy in comparison.
