Travelogue is a 2002 double album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell featuring orchestral re-recordings of songs from throughout her career. It is her eighteenth studio album and is the follow-up to 2000's Both Sides Now which had a similar format. Upon release Mitchell announced that it would be her last album, but later revealed work on a new studio album. Vince Mendoza composed the orchestral arrangements. He won a 2004 Grammy award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for his arrangement of "Woodstock".

Hejira is the eighth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. The songs on the album were largely written by Mitchell on a trip by car from Maine back to Los Angeles, California, with prominent imagery including highways, small towns and snow. The photographs of Mitchell on the front and back cover were taken by Norman Seeff and appear against a backdrop of Lake Mendota, in Madison, Wisconsin, after an ice storm.

Travelogue finds the incomparable Joni Mitchell sticking to the orchestral format that worked so well on her 2000 album, Both Sides Now, where she took a series of American standards, hitched them up to a 70-piece orchestra, and gave them her own quirky twist. With Travelogue, however, she has applied that technique to her own back catalog. Recorded in London's Air Studios with an orchestra, 20-voice choir, and key players such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, this double CD offers moving reinterpretations of her most significant songs  . This is a deeply soulful album that can take you away, take you out of yourself, so to speak, if you're open to it. It's the Joni album most suitable for grownups. 7 people found this helpful.

Challenging and endlessly creative, it’s as brilliant an album as almost anything else in her rich catalog. When it was originally released, Travelogue was supposed to be Joni Mitchell’s valedictory statement on a career that spanned more than 40 years. While she broke this briefly in 2007 with Shine, the 2002 album largely stands as her swan song. And what a monumental achievement it is. Rather than releasing all new material, the album functions as a musical autobiography, culling from her impressive catalog and recasting each title in a new, more mature image.

Rhino Hi-Five: Joni Mitchell Joni Mitchell. Marlena under Foster Grants She's undercover from the dawns advance That girl is travel-drained And the neon mercury vapor stained Miami sky It's red as meat It's a cheap pink rose Otis in the driver's seat Watches the street lights fade away On louvered blocks in green sea air In fluorescent fossil yards Slippers are shuffling into folding. chairs Freckled hands are shuffling cards. They've come for fun and sun While Muslims stick up Washington.
