The ancient legend of Orpheus and Eurydice concerns the fateful love of Orpheus of Thrace, son of Apollo and the muse Calliope, for the beautiful Eurydice (from Eurudike, "she whose justice extends widely"). Photography By, Design – Zipper Works. Piano, Clavinet – Elliot Sherman. Producer – Alan Lorber. the Sirens opens with a succinct summation of Ka’s beliefs: I think it’s fine, to relinquish mine, for the life of our seeds/For the weak moves these dudes eat your food like Harpies/Not just car thieves, large pleas, came home hardened murderers/By the death toll would’ve guessed the threshold was guarded by Cerberus ( Sirens ). And the same is true for the whole of the album. the Sirens has an exceedingly rare artistic clarity which rings sharp and pure like a Tibetan singing bowl. Here, Ka’s age works in his favor: In a genre overflowing with intemperate youth, he is a wizened, patient sage burdened only by memories of a Brooklyn past and volumes of arcane incantations for his shrouded, dusty devout.

Orpheus is a figure from ancient Greek mythology, most famous for his virtuoso ability in playing the lyre or kithara. The talented virtuoso not only entertained the Argonauts but also kept time for the rowers of the Argo and is said to have even calmed the seas with his seductive singing and charmed the terrible Sirens - an early example of the Greek’s faith in the magical powers of music. The talented virtuoso not only entertained the Argonauts but also kept time for the rowers of the Argo.

A Day In the Life of a Fool. Frank Sinatra recorded twelve songs written by Carl Sigman, including this one for his own Reprise label in 1969: the English lyric version of Luis Bonfa's "Manha de Carnival" from the classic foreign film Black Orpheus. Jack Jones had hit the charts with his take on the song in 1966, but Sinatra's Don Costa-arranged rendition remains definitive.
