The Magic Whip is the eighth studio album by English rock band Blur. It was recorded in Hong Kong and London, and released by Parlophone on 27 April 2015 and Warner Bros. Records on 28 April 2015. It is the band's first studio album since Think Tank (2003), marking the longest gap between studio albums in Blur's career. The album received acclaim from music critics. It debuted at number one the UK Albums Chart, marking Blur's sixth UK number-one album.

Album features full quartet of Albarn, Coxon, Rowntree and James, and fans can celebrate with summer gig in London’s Hyde Park. Fans of Britpop pioneers Blur had reason to celebrate on 19 February, as the group announced details of their first album in 12 years, entitled The Magic Whip. Describing the follow-up to 2003’s Think Tank as a return to the way we recorded when we started, Damon Albarn said that the album was similar in style to the music David Bowie made during his mid 70’s Berlin period. Initially conceived in Hong Kong, during downtime following a cancelled show in Japan, the.

Album · 2015 · 12 Songs. After a 12-year break between studio albums, Blur remain as intrepid and inventive as they’ve ever been. The Magic Whip finds the Britpop icons reuniting with a collection that's both wonderfully familiar and endlessly surprising. Lonesome Street kicks off with the ecstatic crunch of guitar and then takes on new colours and textures, with psychedelic synth flourishes and kooky harmonies. While the gleefully distorted I Broadcast buzzes and roars, the melancholy sway of New World Towers and the serpentine soul of My Terracotta Heart leave a haunting afterglow.

The Magic Whip is the eighth studio album by the English rock band Blur. Records on 28 April 2015 The album received universal acclaim from music critics. It has been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales of over 100,000 copies

Blur’s first album in 12 years opens with the faint sound of sirens in the distance on Lonesome Street. It’s white noise that returns later in the album, coupled with voiceovers, buzzing chatter and chiming bells. It all charges along right next to guitarist Graham Coxon’s signature guitar work – something that has been missing from the Blur equation even before the band’s last album, 2003’s Think Tank.

  • Mikale
Can’t stop listening to this album. Everything about it: song writing, mastering, packaging!!? Perfect album.
  • Naril
A phenomenal release. The packaging alone is a cut above the rest. Records play flat and noiseless. The music here is different yet still "blur." I was a little turned off originally when I heard "ice cream man" but the rest of the music is top notch. Outstanding music and presentation.
  • Lonesome Orange Kid
This sounds just so much better on vinyl than digital. Like, I can actually hear the bassline in Ghost Ship without struggling now.
  • Fonceiah
Giving this a spin for the first time in three years, beautiful pressing. Lost in 'Pyongyang' as I type and possibly the finest track Blur ever recorded.
  • Kagda
One of the reasons why we love vinyl: the design as the used physical haptic cardboard as mirror as inner sleeves which are even printed reverse too. Amazing artwork here. Done with ????. Not even to mention the press quality here which is also above the average. A must have for vinyl lovers
  • Bort
the download card expiration date states an expiration on 27/04/2016 but i could still download it today, i thought i got it a bit discounted in part for that expiration but it was not the case
  • Rayli
Interesting that the download card mentions the album as "The Magical Whip"
  • Raniconne
Fuckin' beautiful artwork. My friend got this for me for 290 HKD in HMV which is fairly cheap compared anywhere else I've seen - even abroad. I have yet to listen to it but it screams quality. I wish it had a lyrics sheet, though.
  • Marilore
Agreed. I just got this at HMV for 290HKD with an additional 20% RSD discount. Awesome value for a deliciously lush vinyl package.
  • Bludsong
Very creative set of songs from Blur. I've actually never really listened to Blur except for what was played on the radio in the 90s. I don't own any of their previous albums so I can't really compare this to any preconceived notions of the bands early sound. All I can say is that Damon Albarn is a brilliant songwriter and this album is truly unique in the fact that Blur can claim this as an original sound. The songs are inventive and intriguing. The album was recorded very well and sounds great on vinyl. I would pick up a copy if you haven't already.
  • Hidden Winter
Holy shit, FYE. They charged me 45 bucks for this haha.
  • IWantYou
Excellent mastering - superb sound quality on vinyl. Presented in high quality packaging, what more can anyone want 10/10.
  • นℕĨĈტℝ₦
absolutely stunning sound quality, and the poster is great (not to mention the brilliant album itself). only complaints are the inconvenience of the obi strip when pulling out the record from my shelf (ultimately I put the strip away separately) and the fact that there's no CD or download code included. Everyday Robots has both, why does this have neither?
  • JoJogar
there is a download code. no cd. I keep the obi strip inside the vinyl sleeve.
  • Vichredag
Sure it's expensive, but the quality of everything about this package is A+.
  • Doriel
Great album... BUT come on! Vinyl is $61 here in Australia!! that is damn expensive. It seem to be an increasing trend to raise vinyl prices dramatically each month. If it continues, people will be back to downloading new releases for free.
  • Contancia
Might be a valid statement before, but the dollar is absolutely tanking now. Its only a little bit higher than what the UK and Europe are paying.
  • Quellik
Can anyone tell us does this great album have some nice dynamic range or it is screwed by loudness war by Metropolis Mastering? Im asking about vinyl version.
  • Cesar
Nobody answered this, and I know this question is over three years old, but listening now and the dynamic range is so much better than the digital version. Really stellar stuff.
  • Bearus
If you preordered the album you could buy a lithograph with it, like a deluxe bonus kind of thing. I'm pretty sure the barcodes and matrices are identical so I'm wondering whether or not there should be another version that specifies if that lithograph is included?
  • Samulkis
Pleasantly surprised - great album
  • Andromathris
Just one word: BLUR!In love since the second 1 of the first track
  • Kahavor
Brilliant record!!!! Beautifully presented..
  • Thordibandis
If the new Sufjan Stevens is one of the worst-sounding albums I've bought new, this is one of the best. This vinyl is whisper-quiet, and the artwork (including poster!) looks just beautiful. I'm sitting here vibing out to my first listen of the LPs and hearing elements in these songs that I've never heard before. Just gorgeous.
  • Kieel
A very nice package, the huge poster is definitely a bonus!
  • Gajurus
Great album. Nice quality sound on the vinyl too. Also great artwork. Nice to have them back.
  • Malakelv
Poor quality download 160 kbps
  • Tansino
Really??? I kind of feel download codes should be 320kbps as standard and an option for FLAC.
  • in waiting
Are there english lyrics as well, or just HK-translated ones? O_o
  • inetserfer
The artwork looks fantastic!
  • Llbery
I agree.
  • Dodo
mine didnt come with a download card
  • Hawk Flying
Mine was stuck in the spine. Take the LPs out of the sleeve and set aside, then open the gatefold all the way and shake, maybe it'll pop out.
  • Winn
Ah found it! Not advertised as with card so a bit silly. Love the obi strip type thing, nice touch. Brilliant package.
  • Dagdarad
Yep, put the cover upside down, shake, and you'll find it..
  • Wanenai
Very Very tiny have a look inside the poster
