Taking Greg Lake's vocals out of the mix also takes the heart of the song as well. On this live performance "Lucky Man" and an abridged "Karn Evil 9" is superior to the ELP versions since you get the cream. Having virtuoso guitarist Gary Moore on this doesn't hurt. With its Massive American radio audience, the King Biscuit Flower Hour gave Lake's fans in the states a chance to hear him with this powerful guitar driven band, before they started their American leg of the tour. Now, gladly, it's out on ., a concert to be cherished. As in any real live album (no chance of overdubs here) there are a couple of minor flaws - the odd burst of feedback, a couple of notes that go off the mark, but then again that's what Rock & Roll is all about. Of the four tracks from the solo album, stand out track is "Love You Too Much". It was co-written with none other them Bob Dylan and an all-out belter it is, too.

The show captured on King Biscuit Flower Hour (In Concert) (1996) was recorded circa Greg Lake's 1981 self-titled debut, and features Lake (guitar/bass/vocals) leading an impressive backing combo with Gary Moore (guitar), Ted McKenna (drums), Tommy Eyre (keyboards), and Tristian Margetts (bass). The set originated as a King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcast from the Hammersmith Odeon in London on November 5, 1981. During this time, Lake was on an extended hiatus from Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP), and issued a pair of solo efforts. From the Underground: The Official Bootleg (1998) is a perfect companion, as it features essential stops in Lake's live legacy.
