The Magic Numbers - Those The Brokes download mp3 album
That's the question facing the Magic Numbers and their 2006 sophomore set, Those the Brokes, an album released just a shade later than a year after their eponymous debut, but for all the attention paid to it, it might as well have been released half a decade later. The debut was praised for being a sweet revival of the sun-kissed sounds of such breezy folk-pop bands as the Mamas & the Papas, a breath of fresh air, something that sounded like nothing else out there.

The Magic Numbers are a hit in the UK, with two top 10 albums and four top 20 singles. There, they’ve opened up for U2, Brian Wilson, The Doves and The Who. But to American eyes, The Magic Numbers remains your run of the mill shaggy haired indie rockers who could hail from Brooklyn. Well, my fellow Americans, allow me to let you in on a little secret – The Magic Numbers are fantastic and are well worth your attention. It’s light, breezy, sun kissed pop akin to a deeper and more upbeat Ladybug Transistor. Their sophomore album, Those The Brokes, is a deeper, catchier affair than their self-titled release. They’ve drifted away from their folky roots towards pop, which normally would cause writers like myself to flame them, but when the hook’s in this deep I’m caught. Every song on the album plays like a hymn to summer.
Speaking from personal experience, assumptions tend to be made about those of us blessed with a larger frame. Yes, we are capable of cheerfulness, even jollity, but don’t take it as a given. But the music he and his sister Michele, and their friends Sean and Angela Gannon, make is not necessarily gleeful. For all the supposed sunniness of the hits that made their name and pushed last year’s debut album to double platinum sales, there is a deep melancholy at the heart of the Numbers.
I was lost, but now I’m found" claims lead singer Romeo Stodart on the band’s second album 'Those The Brokes', contradicting the sentiment of their big hit Forever Lost. This reflects a growing maturity on an album that is full of delicate ballads, beautiful harmonies and the occasional up-tempo gem. Lyrically, love, relationships and redemption are all recurring themes. Radio friendly single Take A Chance maintains the musically joyful mood and sees The Magic Numbers at their best – sun drenched catchy pop tunes with soaring harmonies from the two sets of siblings. The tempo slows dramatically as wistful ballad Slow Down (The Way It Goes) makes a lovelorn plea; you can’t give up on him. From here the tempo rarely returns to the bright and breezy levels that the band excel at. There’s too many long ballads - seven of the tracks here are over five minutes.
The Magic Numbers are an English pop rock band comprising two pairs of brothers and sisters from Hanwell in west London. The group was formed in 2002, releasing their debut album titled The Magic Numbers on 13 June 2005. Their follow-up album, Those the Brokes was released on 6 November 2006, The Runaway was released on 6 June 2010, Alias was released on 18 August 2014, and their most recent album, Outsiders, was released on 11 May 2018.
The Magic Numbers is the self-titled debut album from The Magic Numbers. It was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2005. Songwriting duties were taken by Romeo Stodart as was much of the musical composition and arrangement. It incorporated the earlier single release of "Hymn for Her" as a hidden track. The album incorporates many folk elements within the main indie sound which resounds throughout.
