Cocky and commercial - and sporting some of Billy Idol's better lyrics - Generation X is more like glam or straight power pop with punk themes than pure punk. The guitar freakout at the end of "Youth Youth Youth" is the sort of noodly guitar jam you might not expect from a supposed punk band, and "Kiss Me Deadly" is a precursor to the power ballads of the '80s hair bands

Generation X were way ahead of their time. Oddly, they were often mocked in the media for being a group of good looking guys who could actually play their instruments. The songs are very solid and for that this album should be in EVERY punk collection. Billy Idol and Tony James were a great writing team and Bob Derwood Andrews provided great guitar work while Mark Laff kept a rocking drum beat. This is where things get a little confusing, the band ~DID~ release a 3rd album, but it wasn't Sweet Revenge by the original line-up. Billy Idol and Tony James were still a team but they began recording with Steve Jones (of the Sex Pistols) and Terry Chimes (of the Clash) and others. THAT version of the band released an album titled "Kiss me Deadly" which is good but has a very different sound.
