Hammerhead was formed in Moorhead, Minnesota in the early 1990s, with members Paul Erickson, Jeff Mooridian Jr. and Paul Sanders, later moving to Minneapolis. The band released extensively through Amphetamine Reptile Records. Their major breakthrough album Duh the Big City garnering them critical acclaim, however after its release Paul Sanders left the group In 2010 the band reunited and released an EP of new material, Memory Hole EP, the following year. In 2014 they released a new EP, Global. "Hammerhead – Duh, the Big City CD Album MP3".

Their second EP, Global Depression, isn’t a huge departure from Hammerhead’s ‘90’s work (though the singing sounds significantly more confident and less off the cuff), maintaining the non-tough guy aggression with enough melody thrown in to get them out of an Oi! show alive. To bring back home to the religious comparisons that I awkwardly framed this Official Noisey Album Stream Premier; It warms the crumpled soft pack of one’s heart to hear Hammerhead continue to profoundly not suck, just like Jesus.

Global Depression is anchored by Hammerhead's sense of challenging noise rock. The band lurches through obtuse songcraft, but without angular pop sensibilities, Hammerhead aren't pushing their creative boundaries. They are clearly in their element on the self-titled opener, as they employ an array of dizzying riffs, and there are plenty of other impressive moments on tracks like "Outer Rim" and "Like A Wizard.
