Short Movie is the fifth studio album by British singer-songwriter Laura Marling, and was released on 23 March 2015. The album marks a change in style for Marling, being the first record in which she plays electric guitar as opposed to the acoustic instrumentation of her previous four records. On June 17th, Marling released a deluxe version of the record, Short Movie (Director's Cut). The deluxe record included new tracks, as well as new artwork.
Laura Beatrice Marling (born 1 February 1990) is a British folk singer-songwriter. She won the Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist at the 2011 Brit Awards, and was nominated for the same award at the 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 Brit Awards. Born in Berkshire in southeast England, Marling joined her older sisters in London at 16, to pursue a career in music. She played with a number of groups, and released her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim in 2008.
Produced by Laura Marling. I am paying for my mistake That's okay I don't mind a little pain It's a short fucking movie, man I know I won't try and take it slow Bottled water, called a drought Come on, what's that about Keep me sick to make me well Come on, what the hell. I got up in the world today Wondered who it was I could save Who do you think you are?
Laura Marling - Short Movie . Yours And Mine. G-Eazy "The Beautiful & Damned" (Official Trailer). Trap Back Jumpin (Music Video/Short Film). The album is a relative departure from Marling's previous four albums. It is her first self-produced record, Marling wanting to "demystify production. As well as this, Short Movie is the first of Marling's records not to have a six syllable title. Marling also added a layer of distorted, bowed, electric guitar, to the album, creating a low, dissonant sound, reminiscent of urban background noise. At times this is so quiet that it is unnoticeable, and at others is far more prominent, as in the opening track, ″Warrior″
Laura Marling has just embarked on another branch of her evolution. One expects nothing less from the famed folk singer, who's personal life has been the centre of her song-writing since her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim. In the interim between 2013's Once I Was An Eagle and her newest release Short Movie, Marling has had plenty of fodder. Short Movie stretches its cohesive motifs through all thirteen tracks, without sticking to a plot or forced narrative structure. The songs can be rearranged and the album still retains its structure and nuance. Easy' evokes the sadness in growing up, a sort of musical rendition of Dylan Thomas' Fern Hill. Divine' operates in part as a definitive meta-song about Marling's own song writing, but it is an elastic metaphor.

With Short Movie, Marling manages to resolve those concerns and responds with a new collection of 13 powerfully confident songs. Many will chalk up Short Movie’s departure to the singer’s adoption of an electric guitar. It’s certainly a contributing factor exhibited on the LP’s lead track, Warrior, which builds a kind of atmospheric white noise that allows Marling’s vocals to sink into the sometimes dissonant background, while False Hope ’s plugged-in instrumentation seems to give Marling’s delivery a subtle grit when she almost challengingly sneers, Is it still okay that I don’t . Even Marling noted prior to the album’s arrival that though the guitar transformed her perspective on music, she plays it very much the way she does her trusty acoustic. It adds dynamism and power, but it’s not the only thing affording Marling’s growth on her fifth full-length.
