Georg Kulenkampff, Váša Příhoda - Meister Der Violine, Beethoven, Dvorak, Smetana ‎(LP, Mono). Bach Sonate C-Dur Für Violine Allein ‎(2xShellac, 12"). Polydor Meisterklasse.

A tribute to a great violinist who had no presence. at the moment of creation of the page, on fb and Internet. Aufnahme aus dem Jahre 1946 - Bild: Bronze-Büste aus der "Glocke" in Bremen.

Váša Příhoda (22 August 1900 – 26 July 1960) was a Czech violinist, considered a Paganini specialist, and his recording of the Violin Concerto in A minor by Dvořák is still praised. Váša Příhoda was born in Vodňany in 1900. His father, Alois Příhoda, was his first teacher and remained so for ten years. Váša studied privately with Jan Mařák (a student of Otakar Ševčík), making his first public concert at age 13, playing the 4th Violin Concerto by Mozart.

The Beethoven is up against some competition, of course, including van Kempen’s own lp version for Philips, also with the BPO. Tempi and textures are perhaps a bit thick, but I love his ability to clarify inner voices (especially in the middle string register) while maintaining a basically full, warm orchestral sound. 53 Váša Příhoda, Violin Berlin State Opera Orchestra Polydor 68201/205S (matr. 2407/14 GE 9) June 18, 1943.
