Maryla Jonas recorded a series of Chopin Mazurkas at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York. A fabled Columbia Entré LP released on September 26, 1955 featuring Jonas in Mazurka recordings from that session and another 1946 session reveals some of the finest mazurka playing on record, featuring the full range of emotional content in these works, from charm to anguish, delight to contemplation, all brilliantly characterized by the Polish pianist who herself said that it was the suffering.
