Dark Lady is the 11th studio album by American singer-actress Cher, released in May 1974 by MCA. Cher again collaborated with Snuff Garrett as a record producer, and with Al Capps for the arrangements. Dark Lady was the third and final studio album for MCA. It was also the last record promoted on her successful The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour show.
The hit "Dark Lady" was released earlier in the year as a single without an album. This collection featured two singles: "Train of Thought' and "I Saw a Man and He Danced With His Wife. Both songs eventually made it onto Cher's Greatest Hits collection later that year. "Dixie Girl" also was on her hits album) "Train of Thought" has Cher singing in an unusually low register (even for her) and with a cool subtle rasp. It has a beat similar to a moving train and tells the story of a woman considering shooting her lover to death. A lot of people dismiss this period in Cher's career, but she entertained people with this music-and that's the whole point. It isn't always about impressing critics. Even so, anyone who listens to songs like "Dark Lady" and "Train of Thought" can never honestly say that the lady cannot sing.
Dark Lady laughed and danced and lit the candles one by one Danced to her gypsy music till her brew was done Dark Lady played black magic Till the clock struck on the twelve She told me more about me than I knew myself.
