Erkin Koray (Turkish pronunciation:, born 24 June 1941) is a Turkish singer-songwriter, guitarist and one of the pioneers of Anatolian rock. Koray has been in the Turkish rock music scene since the late 1950s or early 1960s. He is widely acclaimed as being the first person to ever play rock and roll in Turkey; in 1957, he and his band gained fame by playing covers of Elvis Presley and Fats Domino.

The father of Turkish rock music, Erkin Koray is a legend by any measure. Possessing a great voice, he is also a unique and accomplished guitarist, an inventor, a leader, a true intellectual, and a rebe. ead Full Biography. Overview . Biography . Discography . Songs .

The time period of this compilation is actually 1967-1973, 1967 for Ask Oyunu/Kizlari da Alin Askere, 1973 for Mesafeler/Silinmeyen Hatiralar (also possibly Yalnizlar Rihtimi, which wasn't released until one year later in a very different version in "Elektronik Türküler") You can figure out the rest of the tracks from Erkin Koray's singles discography, which, fortunately, is quite comprehensive here.

Bonus tracks are supposedly the last four, the rest 12 tracks being found in the same order in the cassette version (titled "Erkin Koray Vol. 1") released two years earlier (1993), the last 4 tracks being the first 3 from a-side and first track from b-side of its companion release "Erkin Koray Vol. 2". Unfortunately the rest of the tracks found in Vol. 2 did not make it onto CD, at least here in Turkey. Other than an acoustic (and previously unreleased) version of "Yalnizlar Rihtimi" here, there were 2 other previously unreleased tracks (a discarded track called "Sevildigimiz Icin Severiz" and a different take of "Dost Aci Soyler" which was released on a single in 1974), along with other single tracks from the same 1967-1973 period.Though this release seems very much like a CD edition (or "reissue") of Erkin Koray's (unathorised) debut compilation album, due to the fact that most of the tracks overlap (even Rate Your Music lists this CD edition as one of the issues of the 1973 compilation) and the label is the same, but in reality it's a different compilation. In fact, only "Istemem" and "Cicek Dagi" from the original LP are missing from this release, both of which were found, again, on Vol. 2 cassette. It would have been great if Istanbul Plak released the rest of the ~10 tracks in Vol. 2, along with other singles which did not make it onto the cassettes (most of which are now to be found on a plethora of CD and vinyl releases from all over the world) as a companion piece to this CD, or as a sequel..."Senden Ayri", "Hop Hop Gelsin", "Yalnizlar Rihtimi", "Aşk Oyunu" & "Kiskanirim" are the only tracks from this compilation which are not found in the "real" reissue of Erkin Koray's self-titled debut, published by World Psychedelia Ltd. ( ). To make matters more complicated, all of those tracks are found as "bonus tracks" in the World Psychedelia reissue of (confusingly titled) "Erkin Koray 2" ( ). Confusing, because the original ten tracks comprising the original "Erkin Koray 2" album are single tracks from a totally different period (1974-1976) and more importantly, in a totally different style! If you're confused already, it takes only one listen of the main album (and comparison with the bonus tracks) for it to make sense.Buy those two WP compilations if you can to have a (somewhat) comprehensive Erkin Koray collection from this period (1967-1973). This CD is only good as a curio, and maybe also worth for the Aptülika-drawn cover art ( sorry no info in English). Otherwise don't bother.
