Beginning as a meandering bedroom project, Real Estate guitarist Matt Mondanile's solo work as Ducktails existed first as a contrast to his band's more traditional restrained guitar pop. Early cassette releases saw Mondanile dousing noodly guitar lines with phaser and experimenting with raw electronics and stony, repetitious patterns, predating the chillwave phenomena and always riding a few feet above the red-eyed output of similarly minded chillers.

Ducktails is the self-titled debut studio album by American recording project Ducktails, released on May 11, 2009 on Not Not Fun. The album is the first of two full-length albums released in 2009, with Landscapes following three months later. Regarding the album's artwork, Matt Mondanile noted: "The first record – all those stripes – that’s this artist in Finland named Jan Anderzen. He makes this insane-o music, but I was super into his art for a long time. He just makes these crazy paintings.

Ducktails is a music project led by American songwriter and guitarist Matt Mondanile, started in 2006. From 2013 to 2016, it was expanded as a band. Following a number of limited-run cassette releases, the 2009 albums Ducktails and Landscapes brought Ducktails critical recognition. The project was associated with the mid-2000s hypnagogic pop scene. six studio albums have been released since then.

Ducktails/ The Flower Lane. by Ducktails - 10 Tracks - 40:21. Release date 01/28/2013. 1. Ivy Covered House.

Ducktails – 'The Flower Lane'. Rated as: 4/5. Matt Mondanile’s fourth album as Ducktails is nothing new. But then that’s largely the point. This indie scenester doesn’t need to change the world, he just wants to make joyful tunes that quickly disperse into the great, miasmic cloud of American rock and pop. A lot on ‘The Flower Lane’ sounds like woozy karaoke covers of soft rock classics, or the jangly indie-pop of Mondanile’s other band, Real Estate. But, with strings and horns appearing, the tone here is richer, funkier and more playful.

This was my top album for 2013 - didn't get nearly enough press - hopefully time gives this release the attention it screams for.Visions of the Uneexcused: Top 21 Albums of 2013

I hear that. I saw them premiere it at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC and there was a strange drunk young day trader who wandered in and proceeded to act like he knew all about them and wouldn't stop slurring about how much he thought their "first one" was better than their "new one." Matt had every band member tune and do mic check for a full 15 minutes after being introduced. Great show, they did "Planet Phrom"

Very cool production on this hand printed sleeve & the super thick vinyl (i believe 180g) sounds amazing.
