Featuring The Hotelier. Album It Never Goes Out. Weathered Lyrics. I was just drilling some holes in my head that perpetually bled. I made art of myself. I drew bear claws on my chest and third eyes on my head looking down. It was live, it was all live ammunition in the gun. And I meant it, every bullet, and I hope they all stung, because that's what I deal with every time I lift up the back of my shirt and I show you what you drew that night with a Swiss Army Knife saying "it was only maps of constellations". Because birds we fly together. I feel tethered, de-feathered, and weathered. A push at its best would get me out my nest then I'll never come home. It was true love, not that shit sold from Hallmark, Hollywood, or Wal-Mart. I'm losing twelve years worth of soul mates, and its harder and realer than anything I've ever felt.
It Never Goes Out has a lot of the same elements as HLNPIT – you can definitely tell that the same band wrote them both. Conversely, not every song is quite as much of a tearjerker. The opening track, Our Lives Would Make A Sad, Boring Movie, is an upbeat, pedal-to-the-floor pop punk song that perfectly shows the listener who the band is and what they’re about. The album ends with the y named Title Track, which is a great mix between the more idealistic, upbeat tracks on the album and the heavy, personal stuff that The Hotelier does so well. There’s a lot of great things to be said about It Never Goes Out. While not the first release most people have heard from the band at this point in time, it was a great introduction to them before the release of HLNPIT.
Take The Hotelier (previously The Hotel Year), whose second full-length Home, Like Noplace Is There is comprised of what can only be described as anthemic, cathartic rock songs, sent occasionally to delicate and destructive extremes. Singer Christian Holden pushes his clean voice until it crumbles, on "The Scope of All of This Rebuilding" against a strutting pace, and on the furious "Life in Drag", but most powerfully during the chorus of "Your Deep Rest" where his words are heart-wrenching and haunting. By making political statements through personal explorations, The Hotelier has not only make a uniquely political record, but also a subtler, more successful one. - Dane Erbach. It Never Goes Out. It's the best album I've ever heard lyrically and musically. An absolute must for anyone who enjoys crying whilst listening to music. The lyrics are truly beautifully written, dealing with topics like suicide and depression without being so straight up that it kills enjoyability. The subtlety and symbolism in the lyrics are so admirable as someone who tries their best to make message count as much as possible in their music. An essential album for.
