The song was ranked on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs. They were assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson who also founded Sugar Hill Records, along with her husband, the record mogul Joe Robinson.
