Hip Hop for Respect was a 2000 project which released one EP for Rawkus Records. It was organized by Mos Def and Talib Kweli to speak out against police brutality in general, and the case of Amadou Diallo in particular. Amadou Diallo had been shot and killed by the New York City Police Department the previous year when he attempted to retrieve his wallet and the police fired 41 shots at the unarmed man, so the subject of police brutality was prevalent.

Who protects us from you" "Hip-hop". Petrified little venomous school yard outcast From disfunctional world of redneck garbage Community bastard child, seekin power to overcompensate For miniscule shit court And repress sexual activity style Need a vocation when standing Spliff of the semi-retarted, is prone to fits of Spontaneous violence and compulsive lying Package dukes that has a lunchbox with a Glock And your Ku Klux.

Complete your Hip Hop For Respect collection. One only has to listen to a few bars of the YouTube videos for "Protective Custody" or "A Tree Never Grown" over on the right side of the screen to see these are serious East Coast head-nodders

Audio CD, Single, April 25, 2000. This record was made for the hip hop world to step up and take notice of Police brutality at its worst. Amadou Diallo shot 41 times, black man, unarmed, no real reason. These rappers step up and take a stand. The known and popular rappers include Black Star, Rah Digga, Common, Pharoahe Monch, Dead Prez and Posdnous from De La Soul. They, along with other known underground rappers, address Amadou Diallo, solutions, knowledge, and facts. There's really nothing else I can say, it just must be experienced. A real hip hop fan should possess a copy. A very important record.

After already dominating the hip-hop conversation, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj now commanded fashion’s attention. What a time to be alive. Rapsody’s respect was well-earned and a long time coming. Since entering the scene with rap crew Kooley High and making waves with her honest-to-goodness flow for well over a decade, Rap’s rap sheet expanded in recent years by way of her guest appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly and as an addition to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation roster. In 2018, her career came full circle once the accolades rolled in for her aforementioned second solo studio album, a work that was both intimate and spoke directly to the times. For Cardi, it was the monumental success of her debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy, and the snowballing effect that followed.
