The Temptations - Lost & Found: You've Got To Earn It (1962-1968) download mp3 album

Lost and Found: You've Got to Earn It (1962-1968) (1999). The Temptations went through personnel changes themselves, the first twelve tracks on the disc comprising songs from their "classic line-up" of David Ruffin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Otis Williams, and Melvin Franklin. The disc contains sixteen top ten Rhythm and Blues singles chart hits, and seventeen Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 enjoyed by the Temptations and released on the Motown associate label Gordy Records imprint.
The last studio recording on the album, "We'll Be Satisfied", includes all three singers on leads. This was a rare occasion for the group during this period, although co-led songs became more frequent in the Temptations' repertoire during their psychedelic period. The album closes with a live performance of "My Girl", which was performed a week after the studio version was recorded.

Under that banner, You've Got to Earn It pulls together a set of quality Tempts cuts that, while not always representative of the highest songwriting standards, is often effective and intense. The puzzle is why some of these David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks vocals were left off releases at the time they were recorded; a weak record such as Meet the Temptations might have benefited. Those longtime Tempts fans will find a good deal to dig here, and newcomers will be enlightened. The period between 1962 and 1968 had them quickly rising to fame and fortune with the relatively stable line-up featuring Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams and David Ruffin (who joined in 1963) as lead and harmony tenor vocalists, with Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin adding baritone and bass.
