Autobahn is the fourth studio album by German electronic band Kraftwerk, released in November 1974. It was the band's first album to fully embrace the repetitive electronic sound they would become known for, although organic instruments still remained part of their sonic palette, and was inspired by the titular German highway system

This particular album, Autobahn, is Kraftwerk's fourth album, and the first album that the members of Kraftwerk actually like. Unlike the previous three albums, Autobahn has much more noticeable music structure, and is far less experimental than Kraftwerk's previous albums. It brings so much into the equation that Kraftwerk hadn't used before, and from the first 3 minutes of the lengthy title song, it's blatantly obvious. Autobahn is definitely Kraftwerk at their best. It's an atmospheric masterpiece that defines Kraftwerk and their capabilities as a band. Not to mention that this album came along in 1974 and it was something that had never been heard before.

Exclusive discount for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). 1. 30. Autobahn (2009 Remastered Version). The most influential band in electronic music has been Kraftwerk. This was the album that introduced them to the world, ad to me. Before "Autobahn" the band was fairly popular in Europe, but this one was the breakthrough for the world. All of their music is great, but this one is the "must have" recording.

Kraftwerk - autobahn: digitally remastered CD album (2009). Here we have a really excellent copy of the Kraftwerk 'Autobahn' Original UK Vinyl LP on the Parlophone Golden Cloud Records. In superb and near mint condition this is a great copy of a classic album. KRAFTWERK-autobahn '74 UK VERTIGO LP ORIG+EMBOSSED.

In the 1920s the Weimar Republic built the first autobahns on a limited scale. Shortly after the 1933 Nazi takeover, Hitler enthusiastically embraced an ambitious autobahn construction project and soon over 100,000 laborers were working at construction sites all over Germany. Their debut album Kraftwerk 1 was released in 1971. The duo were joined in 1973 by Wolfgang Flur and Karl Bartos as electronic percussionists and the following year they made their international breakthrough with their album Autobahn.

1974 for Progressive, Electronic music was like 1994 for hip hop. 3 very important albums for Electronic music were released in 1974: Phaedra By Tangerine Dream. Autobahn By Kraftwerk. Future Primitive By Eko which is just as good as the other 2.

  • Voodoosida
Foolishly picked this up at a record stall in Camden Market, not realising it was a counterfeit, and agree that the quality of the pressing is rubbish. Music too quiet, and drowns in the surface noise.
  • Marilbine
The quality of the music is not in question. The quality of pressing is. Avoid buying this version. Horrible surface noise, crackles and pops throughout that really distract.
  • Rayli
my version of this has no clicks or pops other than the normal of any new copy thats not been cleaned before 1st play, sound quality is a bit lower than the official one but overall relativly good
  • Stylish Monkey
Whilst this pressing, for the most part; is not great when it comes to audio quality - what is contained within those grooves is something profound. People often remark on the superb title-track (and rightly so), for it remains perfect to this day. For me, however, the last three tracks (Kometenmelodie 2, Mitternacht & Morgenspaziergang) are what elevates this into the realm of "greatest albums ever". Kometenmelodie 2, although instrumental is bliss. It sounds to me like the perfect representation of the idea of the "pop song", it gets it right in every single way.Mitternacht haunts me. It is the sound of dystopia, of "Metall Auf Metall" of an "Arbeiterstadt" - maybe a hint of their appreciation for Fritz Lang's Metropolis a few years before the obvious paean to the great film.Morgenspaziergang is one of the most beautiful sounding songs which I have ever heard. It lilts and floats, perfectly conjuring the idea of a Springtime early morning walk amongst fields and wild-life.
  • MrDog
the good: reproduction of original uk release, classic vertigo swirl on translucent blue vinyl. the bad: very poor quality, muffled vinyl transcription. buy if you need a visual supplement to the actual album, avoid if you have ears and decent loudpeakers.
  • Zymbl
Pressed very badly with an awful lot of surface noise not recommended
  • Moswyn
This recording is spoiled by the fact that it has been pressed at a ridiculously low level... not recommended.
