Paul Desmond, Gerry Mulligan - Two Of A Mind download mp3 album

Altoist Paul Desmond and baritonist Gerry Mulligan always made for a perfect team during their infrequent collaborations. Both of the saxophonists had immediately distinctive light tones, strong wits, and the ability to improvise melodically. Here the two masterful reed players are featured in pianoless quartets that also include Wendell Marshall, Joe Benjamin or John Beal on bass, and Connie Kay or Mel Lewis on drums.

This 2003 re-issue of Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan's album Two of a Mind is a classic, perhaps not as well known as it deserves, and a bargain. Originally issued in 1962 in LP form as RCA Victor LSP-2624, with 6 tracks and utilizing material from sessions held in June, July and August of 1962, the RCA folks have very kindly repackaged this with an additional 5 tracks recorded at the same sessions
Paul Desmond & Gerry Mulligan RCA RCA (label) Jazz (CD, LP). A reunion of sorts for Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan – given that the pair had played together on record 5 years before, in a similar session for Verve! This album's almost lighter and more airy than the previous one – as it's done in a mode that echoes strongly with Desmond's own genius at RCA at the time – using a piano-less quartet format that has both horns carving out their own subtle space in sound, hanging together, but each occupying a different range of tonal color. Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint. Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted. Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.

Desmond featured Bickert on his 1975 studio album Pure Desmond, and the two played together at the 1976 Edmonton Jazz Festival.
